Requiem is a type of liturgical service which is provided by the Roman Catholic Church. It is formally known as Missa Pro Diffunctis or other wise Missa Defunctorum. The theme of Requiem as a prayer is that of the salvation of departed souls, it is mainly used after the immediate preceding of a burial, or on occasions of more general resemblance. Requiem some times is observed by the other denominations of Christianity such as the Anglican Communion or the Eastern Orthodoxy.

Requiem is also the title of many musical compositions which are used in such liturgical services and some portions are also used during the mass in the Roman Catholic Church.
Requiem is also a short story by Robert A. Heinlein; it is also the title for film which based on the life of Anneliese Michel.
