Rabi, Rabbi, Rav, Reb, Rebbi, Rebbe are all from the same root word for teacher and spiritually master. There is a tradition in Talmud of when each expression is used.

Certain generations in Jewish history the title was Rebi, other generations it was Rav. The Chassidic dynasties used mainly Rebbe.
Reb is used to title a respectable person without necessarily calling him a Rabbi, as in Sir.

The word "rabbi" is a noun and is the word used to refer to a Jewish priest. The person referred to as a rabbi is generally one who has undergone training in Jewish law, tradition and ritual and has been ordained for the leadership of some Jewish Congregation. Such a person is typically prepared to be the religious head of a synagogue. A rabbi can also refer to a qualified scholar who is capable of interpreting Jewish law.

The word "rabbi" comes from the Middle English word "rabi" which was taken from the Old French. It was taken from the Late Latin word "rabbi" meaning master, taken from the Greek "rhabbi" or "O my master", and taken in turn from the Hebrew and Aramaic word "rabbi" meaning my master derived from the word "rab" meaning master or to become great.
