Pastor is a person authorised to conduct religious worship. Thus he is a priest appointed to attend to the pastoral care of one or more parishes. Hence he is the head minister or priest of a Christian church. He has several responsibilities like teaching, sanctifying and administration with the help and cooperation of other priests and deacons. The Presiding Bishop of the Annual Conference in which the church is located is responsible for the appointment of a pastor.

He is the official head of every local congregation and therefore has the duty of handling the entire program of the church of which he is the pastor. Curate is another name for a pastor. Pastor is a term derived from a Latin term and also means shepherd. It is a biblical word and is found several times in the Old Testament.

A PASTOR is a clergyman serving a local church. He is a leader of the church, the same as elder and overseer. The word originated from "pasture". So, a pastor is a spiritual guide, who like a shepherd leads his flock to pastures to graze and feed.

Ephesians 4:11-13 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
