The word 'meer' can bee used as an alternative term for the word 'mere' and the meaning it conveys is that of simple and without any mixture.

There is no concrete evidence about the origin of the word and different scholars cite different sources about the origin for the word. Some say that it has come from the old French word 'mier' which means pure but some say that word is derived from the Latin word 'merus'.

Though you can hardly find this word in use anywhere in modern dictionaries, when the word is prefixed with the word 'kat' is conveys the idea of a kind of a small African animal which has a long tail. The animal is able to stand up on its back legs.
