Monocot has several names. It is known as monocotyledons or monocots. These are a group of flowering plants. They dominate many parts of the earth. These monocots comprise bulk of the agricultural plants which are in terms of biomass that is produced by them. They have about 50,000 to 60,000 species in a particular group. The family which is the largest in this group is the orchid's family in the flowering group. These orchids's have about 20,000 species. These orchids possess very complex flowers which are adapted for very specific insect pollination. The group which is very important economically is the group of grasses. These grasses include the grains such as rice, wheat, etc., the pasture grasses and the bamboos. This family has specialised for wind pollination.
