Emirates mean the office of an emir or the nation or territory ruled by an emir. It is used to describe the lands or countries under the reign of an emir. Emir is the Arabic term for a commandeer, general or a prince. The Middle East countries of the world are ruled by emirs. Thus generally the political territory ruled by a monarch styled emir is an emirate. It is known as the United Arab Emirates and is the acronym of UAE.

United Arab Emirates or UAE is a federation of seven small states situated in the Arabian Peninsula. UAE is a country in the Middle East. The seven emirates in this country are Abu Dhabi, Ajmān, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. It gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1971. It is rich in oil resources. All the seven emirates are ruled by separate emirs. It is a predominantly Islamic country as the other countries of Middle East.
