A folio refers to a large sized sheet of paper that is folded one along the middle, making two equal leaves or four pages of a book.

A folio also refers to a manuscript of the biggest size commonly available, generally of around thirty-eight centimetres in height, which contains the aforementioned folded sheets.

A folio is also a page of a book that is marked by number only on one side, that is, the front. The number on such a page or any page is called as a folio.

In law terms, a folio is a fixed number of words that serve as a unit to measure the length of written matter in a document.

In accounting terms, a folio refers to a particular page in a ledger or accounting book, or two facing pages, which are given one number.
