The word dermatitis is defined as a skin disorder that is characterised by the inflammation of the skin. The inflammation of the skin or dermatitis is usually caused by an allergic reaction. People usually suffer from an allergic reaction when they come into contact with an irritant. The typical symptoms of dermatitis include redness of the skin and an itching sensation on the skin.

Apart from the known causes of dermatitis, the disorder is also caused by a number of unknown causes. It is not contagious, but it is often chronic. It is sometimes caused by a fungal infection. The skin becomes dry and flaky, turns red in colour, breaks into a rash and often either swells, pains, itches, cracks up or develops into lesions when it comes into contact with an irritant or an allergen. These are the common symptoms of dermatitis. These changes are caused by venous insufficiency.
