The word chronic can be used for something that is lasting for a long time. The term is used especially for a disease that is difficult to cure and has been in your body since long time. Usually you can find people having asthma which lasts for a long period of time, so for that disease you can use the term a chronic asthma.

These days you can find the use of the word in various other concepts also. If a country has very high unemployment rate and is there for very long period of time you can say that the chronic unemployment of the particular country.

In Britain people use the term also for something they find very bad. You can find them using the sentence, 'The movie was just chronic' that means the movie was very bad.
