Coon literally means a raccoon. Coon in other sense, is referred for an undersized animal (a cat) with grayish black hair, and is ring-tailed. The other characteristics of a coon are its black patches around the eyes and a long bushy tail.

The coon's are native to the forests in North America and Central America. Coons are the semi longhaired domestic cats with a long, hirsute rough and bushy tail. Coons have a long narrowed tail and are often called as Maine coon.

The origins of these coon cats are unknown. Coons were first found in Boston. These coons are large and heavy boned. They are named for their raccoon like tail. These coons are very popular for their gentleness, kindness and their intelligence.
