Cobalt could refer to the chemical element or the colour cobalt blue.

The word cobalt has its roots in the German word 'kobalt', which is an alteration of the word 'kobold' that means "goblin", from the Middle High German 'kobolt'. This was a term that was given by miners to the cobalt ore as they believed it to be worthless and found that the ore was not only poisonous but also that it polluted and degraded the other mined elements. This, however, took place chiefly because of the arsenic and sulfur that is also present in the ore.

Cobalt is a robust, lustrous, silver-white metallic element that has magnetic properties. It is related to as well as occurs along with iron and nickel. It has many uses particularly in the making of alloys.
