Crochet is a noun. It has its origin in French and is taken from a word which means 'little hook'. Crochet as a noun means a handicraft in which yarn is looped into a fabric of connected stitches. These stitches are made using a hooked needle. This hook is called the crochet hook, and the needle used is called the crochet needle.

Crochet as a verb means to make clothes hats blankets bed sheets in this way using a special needle with a hook at one end. For example: crochet a blanket. This means to make a blanket by 'crocheting'. Another example could be: granny sat there crocheting the whole day. When one is crocheting one pulls the thread through a loop and makes another loop. This process is used to make the whole design. These stitches made are called crochet stitches.
