In Yorkshire, if you go out all clarted up, it means you're wearing too much make-up. Your mum might tell you you're not going out with all that clart on your face.

The word clart generally has a slang use and does not have a dictionary definition. This is a local word of some regions. This word is used to mean dude, geezer or homie. Someone who knows about the Goldie Lookin Chain (GLC, a British hip hop group which is based in Newport) is called 'clart'. Clart is used to greet someone. Example: What's happening clart! It is also used as an insult. Thus, clart has been used like a pronoun and could mean a person's being or self. Example: Shut up or I will silence your clart.

Someone who is termed a clart, says stupid things. His talk irritates other people and they feel like getting away from this person. Thus, clart is a person who is stupid, clumsy , unfashionable , untidy , dull, dim-witted, slow, unintelligent or even rude. Example: He is a big clart.
