It is a term related to the philosopher/mathematician Rene Descartes. His methods and methods were known as Cartesian. Rene Descartes was also known as 'Cartesius' and hence his ideas, followers or anything related to him was known as Cartesian. He is known as the "Founder of Modern Philosophy" and "Father of Modern Mathematics". He is a very popular personality of the Enlightenment era.

Cartesian theory is based on the belief that the material body and the soul are two different entities. This theory states that while human body is divisible, the soul is indivisible. Thus it is a theory that accepts the presence of supernaturalism. This philosophy is known as Cartesian Dualism. The philosophy of Descartes clearly and accurately expressed the ideals of its age: the downfall of traditional authorities in matters of knowledge, and the autonomy of reason. Its main philosophy was "I reflect hence I am" which is reference to an idea that man is the mirror image of god.
