It is from Yakub, which means to follow, as Jacob was born immediately after his brother Esau and in some stories, he was grabbing his brother's feet.

Israel does not mean "wrestle with angel" as is commonly and mistakenly used. It is from "Isra" and "El". El is a name of God, while Isra means to walk or move towards, so "Israel means to move in the path of God"
